Great question! I think it is a Product Manager’s role to set up the collaboration and ensure that design and marketing activities are aligned. At the Gradient, when we start working on the new project, we set up a team of a product designer, product marketing manager, and business analyst. We kickstart the project with Discovery stage (usually two weeks) during which the team works together on user and market research, competitor research, define our hypothesis, define the scope of the project and create a roadmap. Basically, Discovery stage helps us define the future collaboration.
